11th - 14th December

Phuket

02

Our morning started squashing our packing cubes into our backpacks, that seemed to have shrunk since we last closed them up at home, a 6AM grab (Asian Uber) ride to the airport and we were on our way to Phuket. Checked in and refuelled from a nap we went walking in search of a restaurant for dinner, although all we come across were cannabis cafés and massage parlours, so we stopped at the next “restaurant” we saw. My dish was delicious and the satay chicken skewers were so good we ordered another portion, Harry’s beef in oyster sauce however… was like chewing on a tyre. So we quickly popped into 7-eleven for some snacks and grab’ed back to the hotel. The next morning was Harry’s birthday! He was so excited he’d been up since 3AM so we were the first ones at breakfast on Friday. We got ready and arrived at Cafe del Mar as it opened at 11AM, wanting to make the most of the beautiful views, sunshine, and extremely comfortable sun loungers. Our day was spent in the sun munching on sushi and pizza, drinking cocktails and periodically FaceTiming home to toast to Harry (and show off the weather). We were so content with the day our dinner consisted of delivered Taco Bell in bed and a sound nights sleep.

After an extremely relaxing day it was time for some adventure! We got picked up from our hotel at 8AM as our first stop was bamboo rafting down a river, followed by visiting the sea turtle sanctuary at Phuket’s Navy base. Next was lunch at a spot that boasted a beautiful waterfall that we swam and cooled down in. Then we hopped back in the mini-van to feed and bathed some beautiful elephants. We had also booked an ATV adventure through the palm trees and along the river bank of-which we got a cinematic video made and some far too high definition photos of me (Sophie) by the locals for only 300 baht! The final stop before heading back to our hotel was the monkey temple, aptly named, with opportunities to feed the wild monkeys that live nearby. A quick mini-bus ride, shower and change of clothes later (and ignoring the call of the soft hotel pillows) we were in Pa-tong walking street in search of a restaurant Harry had found as we were craving chicken dumplings and noodle soup. Two pairs of sunglasses purchased and yet another 7-Eleven stop later we were already enjoying ,what would be our first full nights sleep since getting to Thailand, before our heads even hit the pillow.
